What to do when you find your roof is leaking
If you’re a homeowner and you haven’t yet had a leaking roof, it’s coming!
First you’ll hear the dripping, you’ll go and investigate and then you’ll be hit with the realisation that the drips have formed in to a massive puddle on the floor and it isn’t stopping, that’s when you are going to need the services of a good local plumber.
This scenario is played out the country over and all year round, normally when there has been a significant amount of rainfall. The rainwater works its way through broken or missing roof tiles, or in cracks which have formed on the outer layer of flat roofs. From there, the water seeps through joists and rafters, before forming a puddle on the top side of the ceiling’s plasterboard. From there, it’s only a matter of time before the water works its way through and falls to the floor in your house.
Yep, your roof is leaking and it’s probably considerably worse than you think. This is because, in order for water to get in to the house from the roof, there needs to be plenty of it.
Of course, the most likely person you’re going to need to call is your local roofing contractor, but it’s unlikely that you’re going to have the name of a local roofer to hand. Don’t panic though, because a list of specialist companies is moments away, as long as you turn to the internet to find the person you need.
A quick search for “roof repairs” or perhaps add your location, such as “roofing in Nottingham” (of course, you wouldn’t always search for a roofer in Nottingham, you would replace Nottingham with your own town or city) and you’ll be served up a superb selection of local companies to choose from. How you choose is up to you. You may want to go for a cheap and cheerful company – someone who will repair your roof as inexpensively as possible, of you may prefer to find a more established organisation; a company who will offer extensive roofing guarantees.
Whoever you choose to perform your roof repairs, make sure that you understand what work needs to be done and try to get a full written quotation for the work. Better still, try and get a breakdown of what the roofing contractor is going to do.
