Bugs Found In British Homes (That You Can Prevent)

In the UK, there are hundreds of insects and bugs that are found in the homes that would make your skin crawl. What many people do not realise, is that you can actually prevent many of them from crawling around the house by keeping the cleaning under wraps and by using anti-bacterial cleaning products on a regular basis. Cleaning is one of those things we’d rather not do, but in this article we want to make you aware of why you should make time and put in the effort.

In the kitchen there are lots of creepy crawlies mainly due to the scraps of food that are left. Keeping on top of the domestic cleaning however can help to reduce the amount of bugs in the kitchen. Kitchen bugs can include silverfish, firebats (similar to silverfish), cockroaches and ants. We have probably all seen these little creatures at some point, but by ensuring that all crumbs and scraps of food are cleaned up, you’ll be cutting off their main food supply and thus they’ll be scurrying off elsewhere to try and find a new home where they can eat to their hearts content.

In the living room, the carpet can be like a forest of life full of all kinds of bugs. They can include carpet beetles, woodworm, cockroaches, crane fly and flies. All of these creatures are very small so you may not see them very often, but again by cleaning the carpets on occasion and vacuuming regularly you will reduce the numbers. Washing settee covers and curtains will also help to keep them at bay. One bug however, called The Devil’s Coach Horse is actually a good little bug as it feeds on the larvae of other bugs.

The bedroom is a place where you will find plenty of critters because we sleep for hours at night and so there are plenty of skin cells for them to feed on in the bed and carpets. Bed bugs are the top bug found in this room – and they feed on human blood! They are tiny however so you’ll never notice them, but the whole idea is very disgusting to many people. Cleaning your mattress with a vacuum cleaner regularly can reduce the number of these bugs however it’s unlikely that you will ever get rid of all of them unfortunately.

Other bugs in the home can include ticks which feed on the blood of humans and animals and these usually bury their head into the skin and are notoriously difficult to get out. You may also see moths which eat holes in fabric and flies. All of these creatures can be prevented or vastly reduced by giving your home a regular and thorough clean. If you don’t have time however, getting someone else in to do it for you is a great idea and this can cost less than you think. It certainly beats having all these little creatures scurrying around!
